1. Start with the account dashboard
Use the dashboard to understand which hosting service, domains and tools are active before changing anything. The exact cards and available actions depend on the selected plan.
2. Files and website publishing
File Manager supports a visual workflow including drag and drop and archive handling. The hosting home path is /home/www; domain content normally lives under /home/www/domain.com.
- Upload a site or ZIP.
- Extract archives in the intended domain directory.
- Review permissions after extraction.
- Keep private configuration outside the public path where the account layout allows it.
3. Databases
Create/manage MySQL databases and users from the panel. The verified MySQL generations are 5.7, 8.0 and 8.4, and applications in the shared environment use localhost as the database host.
4. Runtime settings
GreatHosts CP exposes PHP versions through 8.5, custom php.ini controls, OPcache, Imagick and selectable Python runtimes through 3.13 in the verified environment. The live GreatHosts CP exposes NodeJS instance management. Depending on the plan, NodeJS may already be included or can be ordered as an add-on service; the active product tables and CP ordering screen remain authoritative for inclusion and price.
5. Email
Shared hosting includes email services with plan-dependent mailbox counts/storage. The platform supports SMTP/IMAP/POP, spam filtering and Roundcube webmail. Exact limits come from the selected plan table.
6. Backups and restore
Open the backup area to review available restore points and start a restore when needed. Remote backup to Google Drive and Dropbox is also supported. Do not assume every service uses the same retention frequency.
7. Security and operational controls
Use the controls that are actually exposed by the account, including ModSecurity and SSL/TLS functions. GreatHosts deliberately does not claim unsupported malware scanning, DDoS protection or physical-security specifics on behalf of the upstream infrastructure.
8. Ordering through GreatHosts CP
Existing customers can expand a hosting account from inside GreatHosts CP. The live account exposes Add/Upgrade Services, and application services such as NodeJS instances may be ordered there when they are not already included by the selected plan. The interface shows quantity, current monthly price, remaining account term and total due before confirmation.
- Check the plan table first because some capabilities are already included.
- Use Add/Upgrade Services for capabilities that are available but not included.
- Review quantity, current price and remaining-term calculation before confirming.
- Treat the live CP/order screen as the source of truth for current price and availability.
- Adding a service can postpone or eliminate an unnecessary VPS migration.
9. GreatHosts website checkout vs CP ordering
Use the public GreatHosts checkout for the initial guided purchase. Use GreatHosts CP primarily after account creation for management and eligible additional orders. Payment-card handling remains upstream; GreatHosts does not receive or store card credentials.
10. When to contact support
Use the ticket system when an issue appears to belong to the hosting layer or when an action is not exposed safely in the panel. Technical support is available 24/7; the upstream platform documents a one-hour ticket-response target, but GreatHosts does not turn that into an unsupported per-ticket resolution guarantee.
